Monroe Town Fair

Up through the early 1900's, Monroe held its annual town fair in September of each year.  While many small towns held summer fairs, the Monroe Town Fair was unusual because of its size and high attendance.  Fair activities were held all over town, from the village center out to the fairgrounds with its stadium and racetrack located east of the present day Gesner town park.  The following article was from the Republican Journal of April 21, 1994:
