Stone Walls

I have a thing about stone walls.  I am constantly amazed by the strength and artistry of the early settlers who created our stone walls.  All you have to do is try to lift one of the stones.  I've learned that there are two types of walls, a "tossed" wall and a "laid" wall.  The tossed stone walls were made by stacking rocks one on top of the other without any plan.  The classic laid stone wall, to me, is a work of art.  These were made by carefully stacking rocks end to end and on top of each other so there is very little space between the stones.  The good laid walls look like they were made by stone masons.
